Help for Those Looking for Work

Here are our Steps for Finding Work Fast:

1a.  FIND PEOPLE WHO ALWAYS HAVE WORK (in your field, similar to your profile.)  Become their best friend!  (You will NOT find them at job networking groups - they are too busy working!)

1b.  Get plugged in to the best job seeker network group possible (Southlake Focus Group is best in DFW)

1c.  Tom has had excellent results with DICE.  Find a buddy in your field who can show you the many tips and tricks.

2.  Get plugged in to the best possible sub-groups for your specialty (this is where the action is)

3.  Spend your time with people who know hiring managers - not the fellow unemployed.

3a.  Coworkers from former employers are your best source of networking

3b.  Go through a career transitions workshop (Crossroads Bible is best at present.  Www.crossroadsbible.org/community.asp )

4.  Create your Results Resume, but don't get hung up on the resume - too many opinions. See examples below for your area

4a.  Being an undifferentiated is a bad place to be.  Must find additional specializations that employers need / want / will pay for

4b.  Tom has had excellent results with contract work in various niches/specialties while waiting for right gig or clients

5.  Focus on target companies known to be hiring, healthy

5.5  DAILY check job postings for target companies, apply on line, network in to hiring manager

6.  Create a list of 20 Companies that Need the Kind of Results You Have Accomplished

7.  Network with everyone who may be able to help you - see effective networking tips below. Find contacts, information, hiring manager, key needs of your target companies

8.  Approach these 20 companies through your network or directly (we prefer a combination of email and phone).

8.5  We have had excellent luck with "message testing" through email click tracking software.  (The market confirms our specialty messages.)

10.  Applying On-Line: Limit to no more than 20% of your time. Odds are not good and most of us find it to be a waste of time

11.  Seek help anywhere you can - don't be bashful - many people have been where you are and will help. E.g. the Southlake Focus Group alumni are fantastic.

12.  Get an accountability partner. Meet weekly to hold each other accountable for doing what you need to do.

13.  Make sure to get out of the house, meet people face to face, some how.

14.  Networking in to the Hiring Manager for a job posting: Develop this skill. Tough but enormously helpful.

Repeat until you find work!
